The project "Conceal" stems from an interest in colonial latticework and its etymological origin, which refers to the ideas of covering and concealing. This project is being developed from a drive toward painting as an act of covering and re-covering what has already been painted. For now, it will continue to take shape through the act of painting, while I explore possible physical and literal connections with the latticework. Perhaps by placing a lattice over the painting, concealing it even further.
The referential framework for this work includes artists such as Óscar Murillo, Delcy Morelos, and Gala Porras-Kim, all of whom share an intention to explore a deep, and at times visceral, materiality.
